Land Development

In the rural areas of Rwanda, it is hard to become truly self-sufficient without being able to grow your own food. Not only that, growing more than is needed for your own family’s consumption means that land development can become a source of income.

The primary purpose of the Land Development Team is to demonstrate and teach a family how to grow their own food - the right kind and the highest quality. Beyond that, the team helps families to maximise their output and grow their land further.

“Vegetables are important in life. This lesson plus other important lessons provided by Priestmead have changed my whole life and family.”

Land Development goes hand in hand with nutrition. Once a family has the strength to maintain their own land, that’s a significant step towards self-sufficiency. Knowing what to grow and how to grow it is the beginning. This is taught during the first phase of Land Development - each family helps in the construction of their own Kitchen Garden - providing a significant proportion of the families vegetables.
